Tips for Making Awesome Lunches with Kraft {#ChooseSmart}

It happens to all of us. At the start of the school year we are super mom with the elaborate lunches, sweet notes, homemade treats and fun bento boxes. But it is February, and I don’t know about you, but I consider my daughter leaving the house with her lunch a success! Would I love to be the mom that sends her daughter skipping off to preschool with a giraffe shaped sushi roll? Of course! But let’s be honest, ain’t nobody got time for that! So I thought I would put together a few EASY ideas for taking those brown bag lunches up a notch and giving them a little makeover with Kraft products and Smart & Final.

As moms, we are well aware of just how much food we go through, especially when we are making lunches and for that reason, bulk is the only way to go. For this reason I love going to Smart & Final because it is the smaller and faster warehouse store and because you don’t have to have a membership- it is open to everyone. They have EVERYTHING you could need from produce, to dairy, to meat to everything for your pantry. Plus, because they have a lot of restaurant supplies- you can get some fun things for you lunches at an affordable price. And right now they have an amazing $4 off 4 Kraft  promo running February 19th- March 4 which will help you save even more on your lunch supplies!

I have two lunches to share today and the first is the much easier version of the popular bento box. I picked up these fun little foil containers 3 for less than $2 and filled them with cupcake liners which are always fun. I oped up a pack of granola bars and slid one in each side and filled up one of the cups with crackers. Another liner held a little orange with a fun face (simple, quick and drawn with a marker and always amuses my daughter immensely lol).

I made one of Avery’s favorites, a quesadilla, but I broke out the cookie cutters (which I use much more for lunches than actual cookies) and cut out the tortillas and cheese. My daughter is in preschool, where they will still warm up her food if needed so I didn’t pre-cook mine. I love matching shapes to holidays, and I always save the scraps of tortilla!

Then I wanted to add some sour cream for her to dip her quesadilla and while I would love to just put it in the liner, we all know that would be a mess! For that reason, I put some in the corner of a baggy, tied a simple bow (no knotting, I wanted to make it easy for her to open) and put it in the cup.

#ChooseSmart #shop 5That lunch is done! All I had to do is put the foil lid on top and pop it in her lunch box and I look like I have things pretty together over here!

For the second lunch, I thought I would give some handmade touches to add a little flair. It has the same basic components only this time I added a tasty drink and took PB&J over the top with homemade peanut butter!

I remember making peanut butter in school and if kids can do it, there is no reason I can’t! I grabbed a large can of Planter’s peanuts while at Smart & Final and I tell you what, I can probably make peanut butter from this can for the rest of the school year- what a great deal! Here is the recipe:

  • 2 Cups Planters Dry Roasted Peanuts
  • 2 teaspoons honey
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons oil

I put the 2 cups in my food processor with a couple of squeezes of honey, a teaspoon or so of salt (I did not use salted peanuts) and a couple of tablespoons of oil. I pulsed it together for a few minutes until it was combined and done! Homemade peanut butter! I prefer it a little on the chunky side so I didn’t add extra oil to get it smooth.

After it was done, I popped it in a mason jar and it will keep in the fridge for a couple of months, assuming it lasts that long!

Last, Avery has been loving the fruit waters so I thought I would really excite her by putting a fruit lemonade in her lunch! I used country time lemonade and put 1 and 1/2 teaspoons in a bottle of water with some frozen berries and that’s it! Doesn’t get easier!

All in all, I got my lunch groove back and I think Avery is going to get a kick out of it all- look at how happy she was when we were just at the store!

    You are such a fun mom! I love all of the creativeness with the orange and the cute heart tortillas. I also love that you shared how easy it is to make your own peanut butter. Something that has been on my list for quite some time. Thanks for sharing! #client
