St. Patty’s Day Decor- Rainbow Tea Light Holders
I was dying rice for my apothecary jars when I thought this could be cute if I did all of the colors and made a rainbow for St. Patrick’s Day!
So that is what I did, I didn’t have 6 vases (from the dollar tree), only 3 so I put two colors in each one.
To color the rice you need:
- Rice
- Food coloring
- Plastic food storage bags
First I put the same amount of rice in each bag- I used a measuring scoop and based it on how half of how high I wanted the rice to go in the vase.
Then I put some food coloring in each bag and smooshed it around until all the rice was coated.
Then I put it in the vase, I put the first color in and then put the vase on an angle so the rice would be also and added the second color so they look was a little more vertical than horizontal.
Then on the mantle they went with little tea lights on top! I was so happy to find them because they are plastic and I have a strict NO GLASS on the mantle rule! (Because if it got knocked down and broke on the floor it would be a pain in the….. because of all the little feet running around!)

I never thought of coloring rice as a ‘filler.’ That’s a really cool idea!
Hey, that is a great idea! It turned out really cute!
