Silly Putty or Flubber Recipe
Rember this stuff?!? And how it used to come in an egg? I always got some on Easter in my basket when I was a child so I thought it would be great to post the recipe for it because you could easily make some and put it in plastic eggs. This is a great idea for those who are looking for candy substitutes also. I found out you could make your own when I started working with children and thought it was great! So I figured I would share it with anyone who hadn’t heard about how to make your own.
Here is what you need:
Hot Water (from the tap)
First separate your glue into bowls (I suggest disposable) for the number of colors you want to make (3 colors, 3 bowls). Then add your food coloring and mix.
In a second larger bowl, fill with water from your sink that is as hot as you can stand it (it works better) and add a few tablespoons of borax.
Pour one of your bowls of glue in the water and start working it with our hands. There is a reaction that happens when the glue hits the borax water and it goes from a liquid to a solid, you just have to work with it a few minutes.
Then put on a foil lined plate for it to loose some of the extra water, it will not look completely like silly putty when you pull it from the water but give it a couple of minutes and it will.
Lastly, put in your eggs and enjoy!
NOTE: I do NOT suggest you have your children play with this on carpet (tile, hardwood or other smooth surface should be fine , it is terrible to try to get out. Also, obviously this is not for children who are still putting things in their mouth.
