Shin Newtons From Family Fun

Tonight was the family Hanukkah party and I wanted to make something fun for the place settings. I got some Family Fun magazines from my sister in law and was excited because not only am I quite the fan of magazines, especially this one, it is one I never really buy because I am a cheapskate… I mean frugal. I got the chance to flip through it last night and I came across this adorable idea and had to make them.

This was the magazine I found it in:

You need:

  • Newtons
  • Pretzel sticks
  • Frosting
  • Piping tip and bags or sandwich bags.
  • Blue food coloring
  • Butter knife

First I laid out all of the fig newton cookies:

Then here is a step by step shot of how I cut the ends to look like driedels:

These ends with be great for Avery once I cut them down a little more:

Next you stick the pretzel sticks in the middle of the flat side of the newton:

Then I got out all the frosting stuff, I have piping bags and tips but if you don’t, sandwich bags would work fine too, I actually use them quite often.

Put half of your frosting in one of the bags:

Put the blue food coloring in the other half that is still in the container:

And then fill the other bag:

Use these to pipe on the border and Hebrew letters onto the newtons:

They came out really cute and looked even better on the table… which I will share tomorrow!
