Reversible Summe Decor Blocks {Event 1- Bloggy Olympics}

Happy Saturday Everyone!! It has been a busy week and we have one more exciting event going on!

My girl Janel from Hating Martha has put together a whole Bloggy Olympics for you and I got lucky enough to be paired up with her for event 1- Decorating!! I was pretty flexible, I said she could put me with any event, I like a challenge but I am very happy with what I ended up with!

Here is my project; a mantle that goes from “summer” themed to “4th of July” themed and back again in seconds! The main part are my Reversible Decor Blocks:

I like that I don’t have to think about my mantle for the rest of the summer and I have both themes covered!! I may do this for every season, season on one side, holiday on the other. Look at me thinking I discovered sliced bread or something…

But anyways if my project isn’t your thing you can go check out Janel’s project, how to make an area rug for $20- seriously, I think I am going to do this one this week.

Then come back next Thursday and Friday for a link up party sharing your decorating project! Great right?!

Let’s get to it!!

First I made the blocks so that started with getting 2×4’s cut down to random sizes. My dad did that for me, and then I spray painted them white. To decorate each side I choose paper for the “summer” side and cut that to size:

And then I did washi tape for the “4th of July” side:

Then I cut the letters and embellishments on my Cricut and used one of my new favorite tools, my Xyron that I got for Mother’s Day. Seriously awesome and the easiest way to attach things, I just run them through and then they are a sticker! Fabulous!

After everything was stuck on it was time to get decorating!

The mirror was one that I pulled out of a frame from another project and stenciled it using my awesome Cutting Edge Stencil- You have until Wednesday June 13th to try and win one HERE if you want to!!

I made a doily garland with summery pink and yellow lollipops on one side:

The blocks of course:

I spray painted my large candlesticks white and added some washi tape to my candles:

And this is just  a wooden plague gorilla glued to a dollar store candle stick that I spray painted yellow and put a candle with washi tape embellishments on top.

Then when it comes time to change to 4th of July, all I have to do is flip the blocks around:

Turn around my lollipop garland to the other side with red lollipops:

Switch out the yellow pedestal for the one that I made with a dollar store star plate embellished with washi tape glued to a spray painted red candlestick with a washi tape candle on top.

And DONE!!

Only took a few seconds!!

I hope you try this and save yourself some time this summer!!

I LOVE your double duty summer decor - what a great idea to flip the block around and switch out a few pieces for a whole new look! I am totally inspired!!

Hi Michelle! What a great (and really cute) idea! I love just about anything that can do double duty in decorating. Thanks so much for stopping by, following and leaving such a nice comment about my Chicken dish. I’m now happily following back (through GFC, Linky, FB, G+ and Pinterest)! Enjoy the rest of your weekend and have an awesome week ahead! ~Mary

This looks GORGEOUS! I love that you used a Xyron machine too - I have one and love it and am always on the lookout for more things I can make with it! Awesome way to kick off the bloggy olympics! : )
