Quick & Easy Simple Tablescape
Yesterday was Yom Kippur, one of our most important Jewish holidays and of course I wanted to do this elaborate tablescape. But that didn’t happen. At lot contributed to that starting with the fact that it was right in the middle of the week and I just didn’t have the time to make my crazy ideas happen. Also, we were in services all morning so by the time we got home, we only had a few hours until dinner. The last fact? Yom Kippur is a fasting holiday so when we walked in the house at 2 pm, the hunger started to hit and simple started seeming like the best plan.
Of course I wanted to go all out, but the fact of the matter was, I was setting myself up for a melt down and we all know that is not a good look for a 31 year old woman. So I took a step back and went mostly white for the tablescape because it is customary to wear white on Yom Kippur. I accented all that with the green spider mums in my gold spray painted bottles. I keep these in the garage because I use them all the time.
In between the vases were challah and homemade bagels. People always cock their head to the side whenever I say I am making homemade bagels really, it isn’t that hard at all! I made 6 batches of the dough and had them all rising in less than 30 minutes. Then I kept the water on boil when it was time to form, boil and bake them so it was ready before each batch went in the oven. I really need to do this more often!
It was a nice dinner with a simple tablescape and I really think it all worked out in the end. It doesn’t always have to be crazy elaborate, even though it is nice when it happens.
