#onthego Tips for Getting Out of the House Quickly!
As a mom, we go through a lot of mini marathons throughout the day, the first beginning the second we wake up in the morning. I know you can relate, your feet haven’t hit the ground from your bed before the ‘what’s for breakfast?!’ starts chorusing throughout the house. In the case of my house, there is a screechy 3 year old tone, a deeper 24 year old tone, and then some harmonies sung by the dogs and cats. Wade isn’t even awake at this point usually so he gets to miss out on this symphony of requests. But the point is, mornings are incredibly busy and any tips or helpful ways to multitask are right up my alley because I have 30 minutes on most mornings to get me, Avery and Scott wakened, fed, dressed and out the door. Here are some of my favorite tips and tricks on how I make it out with my sanity.
First, create a routine and stick with it as best as you can, for us, I wake up and get breakfast and lunches made, extra points if the short one and the tall one aren’t up yet. Then, one of my favorite tips, have hooks by the door so you can put everything there and have it waiting for when you go. Next, I give Avery breakfast while I brush Scott’s hair and teeth and such and then I give him breakfast. While they eat I grab everyone’s clothes and they get dressed. They pretty much know the order of operations, and that really helps.
Second, prep as much as possible! I try, as in it doesn’t always happen, but I try to make as much of everyone’s lunches as possible the night before, I also try to pick out clothes or at the very least, know the actually location of a pair of shoes for everyone. Don’t you always find that they are the thing you end up looking for when you are running late? Me too.
Third, multitask whenever possible. Whenever we can be accomplishing more than one thing at a time, I am a ridiculous type of satisfied only a mom can understand. So, great breakfast ideas like Jimmy Dean Pancakes & Sausage on a stick are an amazing resource for my busy on the go mornings. These are awesome because when Avery is munching on this great on the go breakfast and I inevitably loose the hair tie I was going to do her hair with and need to walk with her, hand on pony tail, to the back room to get another one, it doesn’t disrupt her breakfast. Come on, this has happened to you all a least once!
Fourth, this is the one that I need to work on the most, encourage independence. I created a fun little check list for Avery with the main things that we need to accomplish in the morning before we leave and have started holding her accountable for her own tasks. There are also little check marks she can cover up the tasks with as she goes, which is probably her favorite part, and then she knows exactly what she has to do next. Knowing that she is done with breakfast and seeing that she needs to get dressed next and doing it on her own saves a lot of time and energy for both of us.
- Prep lunches and clothes
- Set everything by the door
- Create a morning checklist
- Take a little help from the store and run to Walmart to pick up Jimmy Dean Pancakes & Sausage on a stick to make on the go mornings MUCH easier, in February they are moving from the freezer aisle to the breakfast aisle!
And, you should keep track with Jimmy Dean here!
And I am just going to take this moment, and enjoy the fact that because of this great on the go breakfast, I had an extra moment to grab this picture! Fabulous!
