Monthly Iron-On Onesie Patches {DIY Baby Gift}

This past weekend I was lucky enough to attend the SNAP! conference in Salt Lake City, Utah. There was something special this year where we could participate in a secret sisters program, kind of like a secret Santa. We all got paired up with someone and brought three gifts, one for each day, with the third gift revealing who we are. I was so excited when I got Jennifer from Always in Wonder and I couldn’t wait to get started on her presents! The bummer was that Jennifer is pregnant (totally not the bummer, keep going) and her doctor had advised her against the trip and traveling so she wasn’t able to come at the last minute (that is the bummer!). But that is ok, I can mail them to her, but I thought I would share the number 3 present with all of you! How did I do?

I didn’t want to give her 3 baby related presents, but how could I not give her at least one?! This was so fun, quick, easy and affordable to make and I really hope she likes them! I went with a black and white theme because I didn’t know if she was having a boy or girl.

I gathered the necessary supplies:

  • Fat quarter in color of choice
  • Fusible webbing
  • Iron on vinyl

First, I started by making the numbers by putting the iron on vinyl through my Cricut. I cut my letters at about 2 inches.

Then I cut the fabric in to smaller pieces, just to be easier to work with as I went.

I ironed the numbers on the fabric, I just used another fabric in between because there wasn’t a protective layer over the vinyl that I was using.

After that, I cut the fusible webbing and added that to the back of each square and ironed that on, again with the fabric between the iron and my patches.

Last, I traced circles around the numbers, my Scotch Blue Painters tape was great for this. Then I used my pinking shears to cut them out to give the edge a little character. I made the 10, 11, and 12 a little bigger to both fit the double numbers, but also with the idea that the babies are a little bigger then as well.

I left the backing on them so that they wouldn’t stick together and when Jennifer’s little baby is born, these can easily be ironed on to any onesie she already has and she is ready to photograph!

I hope she likes them!!

Now I just have to get them to her!
