M&M’s® Crispy Hamantaschen

Purim is almost here! Now, I know that when it comes to Jewish holidays the first ones that come to mind are Hanukkah and Passover and while those are awesome, Purim is an awesome holiday that lands around early March each year. One of the best parts about Purim? HAMANTASCHEN!! Some of you may be thinking… haman-what? Hamantaschen are a triangular shaped cookie that can be filled with almost anything. It’s delicious, you should definitely get behind it, especially these M&M’s® Crispy Hamantaschen. Oh, and I promise they are easier to make than say.
There are two parts to the hamantaschen, the dough and the filling. The dough is kind of like a sugar cookie dough but not really, maybe something between sugar cookie and bread dough and it has a little extra citrus. Fillings range, but this chocolate one is the easiest and my favorite. Here is what you need:
- 1 cup (two sticks) butter
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 1 tablespoon vanilla
- Zest and juice from one small orange or 1/2 large orange
- 2 eggs
- 3 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 4 1/2 cups flour (to start)
- Brownie mix (and whatever ingredients called for on the box)
- M&M’s® Crispy
Alright, here we go! First I threw the butter and sugar in the mixer and mixed it until fluffy and light.
Then I added the vanilla and orange juice and zest. I added the eggs one at a time, waiting until the first one is mixed before I add the second.
I mixed the baking powder, salt and flour together and add the mixture in 3 parts to the dough. Mix it until it pulls away from the side of the mixing bowl, depending on where you live you might need to add more flour to achieve this. Once it is all mixed, put it in a bowl (or leave it in the mixing bowl), cover with plastic wrap and then put in the fridge for an hour or two.
Before you roll out your dough, preheat your oven to 350 degrees, mix up your brownie mix, and grab you M&M’s® Crispy.
I was so glad to be able to grab everything for this while at Walmart and because M&M’s® Crispy are just coming back (hallelujah!) at my Walmart there was a whole display! I love all M&M’s® but the Crispy are my favorite so when I was talking about hamantaschen with my preschoolers and we were all coming up with fillings, M&M’s® Crispy got in my head and I couldn’t get it out! Let me tell you, there are as good in the chocolate hamantaschen as I thought they would be!
Back to the cookies, I rolled them out to about a quarter of an inch and cut circles. You could really do any size, I just had this big cutter I grabbed in the baking department and it works well for some jumbo hamantaschen.
Once I made my circles, I added about a teaspoon of brownie mix (it expands, trust me!) and a few M&M’s® Crispy.
Then the only thing left to do is pinch them in a triangle and bake them off. I would start with about 10 minutes and then check every minute or two after that.
They are so delicious! I love this new spin on a traditional treat with an old favorite.
I grabbed a big bag of the M&M’s® Crispy for this recipe, but they are also bringing back the snack sized bags by the check-stands with even less calories at only 180 calories per serving- holla!
