Mickey Mouse Classroom Tablescape!

Today is Avery’s 3rd birthday and while I was trying to keep all things Disney and Mickey/Minnie Mouse for next week. I can’t help but share this post today!!

I was thinking back on the last year and as much as I hate to even think about it, when it comes down to it, we almost lost her last year. Wow. I hate even typing that. There is much more (it is a really long post) about that story HERE. Maybe that is why I am going COMPLETELY overboard on her birthday this year. Don’t get me wrong, I am not spending gobs of money or anything, I am still being frugal but I am celebrating at every possible moment because I am just grateful to be able to celebrate this birthday at all.

That is all the emotional back story. I think I literally came to the epiphany of those last two sentences while I was typing them. Blogging is awesome like that.

But here is what I did in her class at school today.

The normal procedure for birthdays is cupcakes at snack time, some parents don’t even come in, they just bring drop them off. That is all fine and wonderful. The kids are happy to have a special snack to hand out and share with their friends. I have been teaching for 6 years now and most birthdays are done that way.

Some other ones are a bit over the top, I tend to take notes on those.

I know I wanted to do something special and I it is amazing that I teach next door to her class so it worked out well, I took a couple of my students to help me and we came up with this:

Table cloth, plates, cups, napkins and straws can all be picked up at the dollar store. All of those mixed with some Mickey shapes cut out on the Cricut and some wooden decor blocks (that will be on my mantle at the party) came together to make a fun table for a 3rd birthday.

I didn’t go cupcake route because while she likes them, they are pretty pricey (she goes to a Jewish preschool that keeps Kosher, so I can’t make her cupcakes because my kitchen isn’t Kosher, I would have to buy them} and she is hit or miss on eating them. For that reason I went with one of her favorites, frozen yogurts in a tube and then I found a bag of mini chocolate chip cookies for $1.50. I think I did this whole table for less than what I would have spent on just 12 cupcakes.

I like that math!

The kids had yoga today so I was able to catch her on when they walked in and I don’t think she knew it was for her at first. Then she got all excited but that went to shy pretty quickly as well. Especially when everyone sang to her.

Man, this kid is amazing and I am so lucky she is mine!

I can tell that your tablescape was inspired by love. It’s a wonderful thing to be a mama.
