{Kid Friendly} Restaurant Tips

This shop is part of a social shopper marketing insight campaign with Pollinate Media Group and BJ’s Restaurants, but all my opinions are my own. #DineInOrderAhead #PMedia

Don’t you love going to restaurants? You don’t have to cook, you don’t have to clean, heck, you don’t even have to get your own drink! People wait on you and take your order and bring you whatever you need. Sounds great right? Well it is, but sometimes, when you have kids, especially young kids, it may borderline as a traumatic experience. BUT if you do a couple of things to plan ahead, them my friends, it can be all the things from the beginning of the post as well as a great family outing. Promise!

First things first, like many parenting moments, without planning, you might be doomed for failure so there are two things you must do ahead of time. First, decided to go to BJ’s Restaurant because you can use their new Dine In Order Ahead app (game.changer.people.). Second, put together a busy bag that is only for the restaurant. Trust me on both of these.

Let’s start from the beginning, even when you go to the fastest restaurant, you still have a period of time once you are seated where you wait to order your drinks, then receive them, then place your order, before you food has even started cooking. Then you have to wait for it to be made and brought to you, even the best kid can have a hard time through this time line, especially if they are hungry! But, what if while on your drive to the restaurant you could place your entire order so that once you sat down, they immediately started making your food. In the words of Avery “Wouldn’t that be great”, yes, yes it would. I am a BJ’s Restaurant believe because with their new Dine In Order Ahead app, you can do just that, while I sat in the car while Wade pumped gas, I started taking everyone’s order and punching it into my phone. It was super simple to make and modifications needed and I was done! We walked into the restaurant, we were already on the waitlist so I just let them know I had ordered ahead, and we were seated. The waitress picked up our order and brought us our drinks and we were well on our way, I was in shock! But I snapped out of it and moved on to step two, getting Avery working on her busy bag. We needed a new one so I thought a perfect activity would be letting her decorate a new bag! I know my kid and drawing with ‘Mommies markers’ on something like a bag (my little hoarder loves a bag) would buy me about 15-20 minutes, perfect for waiting for food to be prepared at a restaurant. She loved it and got right to work!

Do you see that, she is smiling and engaged and making us look like awesome parents! The best part is you can fill these bags with anything; cars, coloring books, story books, puzzles, fun packs, anything! I like to keep it as a surprise but you could also let them choose what to fill their bag with as well, whatever works for you! Before long, we got our food! Yes, food! To be honest, I would be happy with one of BJ’s Restaurant’s signature sodas and a kid behaving herself, but I got to eat a delicious meal on top of it. This is a day for the history books, I mean, check out this Grilled Chicken Club I ordered!

Avery was pretty stoked about her happy face fries too, can’t you tell?

All in all it was a great experience and from the time we walked into the door to paying my bill through the app using Mobile Pay (yup, you can do that too!) we were in and out in less than 45 minutes. Can you believe that?! And we were there on a Sunday at lunch where the restaurant was packed! This would be the perfect place for a quick weekday business meeting! Can I tell you one more thing, just for downloading the app on your iPhone or Android (I am an Android user and it worked great), you get $5 off your first order! That was a pleasant surprise, who doesn’t like a discount?!
