happy 4th of july

Happy 4th of July!!!

We had such a great 4th of July!!!The hematologist called us personally yesterday to let us know that Avery has kicked started making her own red blood cells!!! YAY!! I mean there was a lot more that went into that explanation but that is the cliff’s notes version of the test results. That is a GOOD thing so we are hoping when we go back to the doctor in a week and a half, her numbers are back to normal! It did make this day much more fun.

Plus we started off the morning with a play date with her very best friend ever!! It didn’t hurt that I got to talk with a mom friend either.

Then we prepped for a party at my sister in laws and I ended up bring a whole bunch of stuff because… well just because. If things hadn’t been so crazy with my niece and nephews staying with us this week, I probably would have had a back drop and everything but this was pretty good as  a last minute thing.

I spray painted these mason jars for the plastic ware literally with in the last 30 minutes before we left, I think they came out cute!

I pulled off the revisable decor blocks and firecrackers from my mantle and brought them up for the table too.

I have mentioned before that frugal doesn’t really begin to describe me and that also goes along with wasting food too. I had some extra chocolate left over from my red, white and blue strawberries and so I stood at the pantry thinking “what can I dip in chocolate” one thing was really cute, the other was odd, but they both were good! This was the cute one, little star marshmallows, dipped in chocolate and then dipped in health toffee pieces like for cookies.

They are too good than they should be, try it.

Of course there has to be star watermelon and blueberries. We have to be healthy you know.

Here are the red, white and blue strawberries, I just used two colors of candy melts.

Ok, I feel like I can be honest with you all now. In my effort not to waste, I came up with this little snack… I am not going to tell you what I really called it because that is not blog appropriate but it was similar to “wth”…because it made no sense. Not one bit. While staring into said pantry, my eyes gazed across some ice cream cones, you know because they were on clearance and sale at some point.

So I chose the pink/red ones, broke them up, dipped them in the white and then in the blue like the strawberries and then in the toffee pieces.  Seriously, I don’t know how my mind comes up with this stuff. People at them all. Every. Single. One.

And they were festive.

The whole food spread with everything everyone brought to share!

After I got my pictures I let the family ATTACK!!

Avery had a little of everything, here she is munching on a ‘blue strawberry’.

My SIL filled water balloons for the kids, Avery just pulled them from the bowl and threw them on the ground, I thought this was a good picture!

Isn’t her little stars and strips shirt dress thing adorable?! Wade kept telling people that I was dressing our kid in rags because I made it from some cotton rags I bough from Lowes, 10 for $4!! Could you blame me?

I just liked this picture.

Apparently she felt the urge to march, whatever, she can pretty much do what she wants as long as she is polite.

It is also a good picture of the shirt! I can share this tutorial if you all would like to see it, but basically it is a pillow case style shirt from two cotton rags. The rags were t-shirt materials so it worked perfectly!

Then it was fireworks time! Interesting fact, this was the first time Avery saw the fireworks but also the first Wade and I have sat together to watch fireworks in years or maybe ever in our almost 9 years together. This was even the first time we saw them with Scott. Pretty special. Normally we just let them go to bed but going to SIL’s house may be the new tradition!

I wanted to get better pictures, and I think I could have with the flash but Wade said it would bother everyone so I didn’t, oh well. We all know what fireworks look like I guess.

It was a great day, I would tell Avery it was America’s birthday and she said “happy birthday cupcakes” yup, totally a 2 year old :)

I hope you all had a wonderful 4th of July with your family!!
