Feather Earrings {Tutorial}

I have been wanting to experiment with feather jewlery for a while but I didn’t know how to make it work.

 Then it came to me, probably in the middle of the night or in the shower or some other weird and somewhat inconvenient time.

But, because I know that I am usually on the tail end of trends, I wanted to make sure that I didn’t completely miss the boat on this one already. So I did what anyone would do.

I got on facebook and asked my niece… I think my words were something like “are feather earring still in or are they sooooooooo 6 months ago?” and she said they are still cute.

Ok, market research done, now I could commense with seeing if I could make a cute pair and here is what I came up with:

Pretty dramatic photo effect huh?

On to the making:

First gather your feathers, but the kind from the craft store please.

Then I used these, don’t know what they are called but they have a loop on the top and you can lay the feathers inside it and use your pliers  to close either side over the feathers.

I also needed 4 jump rings, 2 six inch pieces of chain and two earrings.

Here is how I laid the feathers in and closed the metal around them, I also went back and trimmed the part of the feather hanging out.

I added a jump ring to the loop.

And a piece of the six inch chain to the jump ring.

Then I added another jump ring to the end of the chain but before I closed it I added in the earring as well.

Then you hang them on some random candle holder around your house to get your picture and you they are ready to wear!

They would be super fun in a bunch of colors too, what a fun activity for teen girls to do at a party and take home at as a favor too!

Check me out at Kara’s party!

    So cool! Didn’t know you could make feather earrings. I wanted a pair forever but couldn’t justify the costs…didn’t think I would wear them. Maybe I’ll try this out!
