Fall Porch Topiary

I am continuing on with my belief that since school has started, I have been given permission to start decorating for fall. I always swoon over all the fun fall porches I see all over internet land and the way my house is set up, I probably have the smallest porch ever. I think Guinness people are coming out next week to take measurements for the next world record book. It’s small. But, I have decided that doesn’t mean I can’t still give it some fall flair and the medium sized topiary is my first step! Check it out!

It was so easy to put together, my favorite kind of project, especially because I can do it while watching my favorite questionable TV shows. Here is what you need:

  • Make it Fun 10 inch foam ball
  • Make it Fun 6 inch foam ball
  • Make it Fun 4 inch foam ball
  • 36 inch dowel
  • Planter pot
  • Foam to fill in the bottom of the planter pot
  • Lots of faux fall flowers
  • Hot glue
  • Faux moss
  • Paint in color of your choice for planter pot

Can you tell what our Make It Fun challenge was this month? Yup, love all the different foam balls I got this month! But back to the tutorial, I chose to paint my pot first so it could dry while I did the rest of this project, I chose gold because, well, gold.

Next, I put the larger and medium sized ball on the dowel, the last one just goes on top so it is easy to place later.

Then, I pulled all the flowers off their stems and made a big ol’ pile of fall goodness. I should have just jumped in this seeing as how we don’t really get to jump in fall leaf piles her in San Diego.

At this point the fun starts and I began gluing the flowers on the foam balls in a random pattern. Once you get going this really goes fast, especially if you start with the largest ball.

Once done, I placed the foam in the pot and secured the dowel down inside, adding glue if you need. I put the moss around the base to cover up the foam and at this point it is almost done! Last, I placed the smallest ball on top and it was ready for the porch!

Now, if you have more than half a square inch, you can totally make a pair of these on either size or even go larger in your design but this one works perfectly for the corner on my porch and I am thrilled that things are starting to look lik fall!
