DIY Grill Tool Holder Father’s Day Gift
Happy Mother’s Day to all the mommy’s out there! I know it might be a little weird to be sharing a Father’s Day gift idea on Mother’s day but I scored a day in the awesome Craft Lighting series and I get to share a quick and easy gift idea today! I thought I would put together a fun grill tool holder for all the grillin’ dads out there right before summer kicks off- I think it came out really cute and it was quick and easy to make!
It all starts with a piece of wood and some vinyl, but here is a complete list:
- 1x6x14 inch piece of wood
- Vinyl, any color (great use for scraps)
- Stain (I used these awesome Minwax wipes with the stain already in them but this step is optional)
- Mod Podge
- Sponge brush
- Spray paint
- Hanging mechanism that works best for you (picture hangers, rope and nail, screws, being that it is outside it will be different for everyone)
The first thing I did was design the vinyl in Design Space to cut on my Cricut Explore, to save you even more time since this is a 15 minute craft, you can click HERE and get the exact cuts that I used.
While the machine was cutting, I just wiped one of the Minwax stain wipes across the board a couple of times and then wiped it off with a paper towel and it was dry almost instantly.
After cutting on the machine I was able to weed out the vinyl and get it ready for the transfer tape.
Apply the transfer tape across all your words and then apply the words to your cut and sanded piece of wood.
The next step may seem kind of weird but I like to apply a thin layer of Mod Podge across all the letters to help reduce paint bleed. Make it a thin layer so that it dries quickly.
All that is left now is some spray paint in your or your recipients favorite color!
When it is dry, pull off the letters, I love my Cricut weeding tool for this!
I had some hooks on hand (you don’t have random hooks on hand in your junk drawer?) so I screwed two of them into the bottom of the sign that would be perfect for up to four grilling tools.
Then you are done! You can add your picture hanging hooks or other method on the back and you have a quick and easy Father’s Day Gift idea!
