Every year is interesting with the mix of Hanukkah and Christmas. Last year it started the day before Thanksgiving and that presents it’s own challenges. This year it started last Tuesday and ends on the 23rd, followed by Christmas Eve where we do Christmas with my mom an then Christmas Day with my dad. That is 10 DAYS STRAIGHT of presents! Because I of course love to mix homemade and store bought presents, this felt car mat that I made Avery to go with some fun Disney Planes toys she loves is the perfect match! The hardest part will be deciding what holiday to give it to her for!
Let’s get started, first go shopping and decided which fun Disney Planes toys (many of which are on rollback right now at Walmart- holla!!) you would like so you can design your felt play mat according.
The ones available on Rollback right now are:
- Disney Planes Flight to the Finish Speedway Rollback to $24.97
- Disney Planes Fire & Rescue Die-Cast Vehicles 3-Pack Rollback to $14.97
- Disney Planes Fire & Rescue Deluxe Talking Vehicle Assortment Rollback to $19.97
- Planes Character Assortment die-cast set & Disney Planes: Fire & Rescue Character Assortment die-cast set are both on rollback at $4.97
Then you want to gather the rest of the materials which is really just a bunch of felt, hot glue and some good scissors.
First I lay out the mat and start with the road, also since these are planes, I left a big space for an airport.
After you have designed the roads then it is fun to add everything else in like places for cars and airplanes to park. A fire station, gas station, lake (there is always a lake) trees and all kinds of other things that either go along with your characters or are things that your child likes or would find amusing.
This process takes a little bit but it is super fun to do during your favorite shows and is actually kind of fun in and of itself! I find that it is easiest to cut and place everything and then once it is all done, then I go back and hot glue it all down.
Once it is done you can fold it up in a box and put your little Disney Planes toys on top or wrap them separately and your gift is ready for giving! I can’t wait to give this to Avery! I wanted to have the presents separate because then there is just more to open, but this is of course not our first set of Disney Planes toys so I grabbed one of Avery’s other Dusty toys from the first Planes movie and tried it out! I am sure this is going to be a hit!
Are you giving any handmade gifts this year? Tell me about them in the comments!
