Complete DIY Lamp Makeover {with added LED Power!}

I have been sharing bits and pieces of my on going craft room makeover for the last few months. But one thing has needed my attention in order to fit in with the room- my lamp! My in laws were so nice to get me a tall, 3 bulb, lamp for my space and it totally gets the job done, but it wasn’t providing enough light and it was super plain. It needed some love y’all, and some LED power, so here is what I came up with!

This is much better, don’t you think? Plus I kicked it up a notch and added some new GE LED light bulbs and there is much more light than there was before! Ahhh, much better! Oh, wait, you probably need to see the before picture- right?! Here it is:

Pretty blah, served a purpose, but didn’t do it in a cute way. First thing first, I spray painted the base gold, but before I could do that, I took off all the shades and taped off the electrical openings.

Then I took it outside and gave it a coat of gold. Things were better already!

I went through a few ideas for the shades and I ended up with just picking a few colors of paint (teal, gray and white to match the room) and squirting it organically all over the shades and then letting them dry. I think it was really fun and a good statement for such a small space.

Plus it looks so cool when it is all put together!

The final piece though, are these little guys, because when it comes down to it, if it isn’t providing enough light for work or photos, what is the point?!

The new GE LED bulbs that I added are not only saving me money because they will last until Avery graduates high school (one bulb can as long as 15 incandescent bulbs, looking at other ways to save? Check out this energy consumption calculator) but they are so much brighter AND they are cool to the touch- which we all know is important when you have kids around. Let’s be honest, we all could see that LED is the new way to light, I have been watching it slowly transition everywhere, and now I see why! Plus, as a blogger, the soft white light is so much better for my photos, love it!  Learn more about LED bulbs here. Avery loves spotting them at Target which is super easy since they are on an end cap right now!
