burlap ruffle table runner

Burlap Ruffle Table Runner

I have been all over the ruffle thing since I could figure out how to make them and now I can also finally make all the burlap stuff I have been oohing and ahhing over as well.

I saw one of these table runners forever ago on Jen’s blog over at Tatertots and Jello and was dying to make one. I have cut the fabric to make a bunch of holiday themed ones but had some scraps left over and thought I would make myself a little something. I spaced out the fabric a little further on mine but I had less strips to go across in this case.

Here is what you need:

  • Burlap
  • Fat quarters or fabric scraps
  • Scissors
  • Sewing machine

First cut all the fabric, I got the burlap of the bolt so I used that as the length and then cut off a foot wide piece. The patterned fabric I cut to about an inch wide. I have 11 pieces of the smaller fabric in this case but you can mix up the number of fabrics and the number of ruffles to whatever you like.

Then I began sewing on the ruffles.

I made a simple AB pattern.

When I was done I sewed around the edge to help with fraying.

And added it to my table!

Pretty good for a first try I think =).

how do you do your ruffles? I noticed in one of your pictures the fabric was NOT ruffled when you were sewing it onto the burlap. I always ruffle, then sew to the fabric, but if there is an easier way I sure would love to know!
