are your parents home

Are your parents home?

I made a new printable for myself tonight that I thought I would share with all my lovely readers as well… But first, let me tell you a story.
I was hanging out with Avery and Scott and there comes a knock at the door, which always makes me jump out of my skin because I generally don’t hear the knock as much as the dogs and their barking. But when I walk over, I don’t just open the door, I don’t have a security screen door so I open the kitchen window if I don’t know the person. People are aways a little thrown off but it is either that or they get eaten by a dog.
I am doing a public service really.
Ok, maybe that is a little dramatic but anyways…
On this day, it happened to be the ever bothersome (at least to me) door to door meat salesman.
Yeah, door to door meat salesman… Now, I have talked to many friends in other areas who have this service and it is a honest butcher’s truck or fresh off the dock seafood truck, but I have also talked to many friends who’s meat-man is like the one that comes around my neighborhood.
It is a small converted pickup truck with various types of meat- my vegetarianism aside, why would I buy overpriced meat out of your pickup truck? Who knows when, how old, from what, where…. I could go on but just the though grosses me out.
Besides the fact that they NEVER believe me when I say “we are vegetarians” , they always come back with “we have fish and chicken”…. really?
But this guy was especially amusing, he knocks, I open the window and the first thing he says is,
wait for it,
“Is you mom or dad home”
My response? “No, and we are vegetarians.” and well, I already explained the way the rest of that conversation went…
In comes me finally sitting down and creating a “no soliciting” sign.

If you would like to avoid random “compliments” or just the chance that the dogs might wake up sleeping kids during nap time, feel free to print this out yourself!
Just remember, I made this as a free printable to share with you so please, only for personal use.

This made me giggle. We get that with Cable t.v. salesmen… we don’t have television, so it’s always amusing to have that conversation as well:)

I don’t have this now that I am in my condo (thank goodness) but I have seen my share. I also apparently sound very young on the phone, whenever I get calls for things like surveys, polls, or police/fire fundraisers where they don’t have a name to ask for, I frequently get, “is your mom or dad home?” To which it is always tempting to respond, “I don’t know, did you try calling them at their house?” but I usually settle for a stern and irritated, “you are speaking to the head of the household, how can I help you?” followed by where I interrupt them to say, “No thank you.” *click*

Are fish and chicken really animals? *forehead smack*

Meat?? Off the back of a pickup truck??? Lol…this made me laugh. Oh and take that “is your mom home” as a compliment! The older you get the more you will appreciate moments like that. I got carded at Wal Mart a few weeks ago while purchasing wine. I am 41 years old. I know they HAVE to do it but I told her that she made my day! :)

For years I have considered putting a no solicitation sign on my door. We must have been on some “need to be converted” list because we’d get people trying to sell us into their religion almost weekly at our old house. I never answer the door to anyone I don’t know. Ever.

Haha, that is too funny. That has happened to me with telemarketers, but never a door-to-door salesman. We don’t get those here though, I think they are too scared of the weird people that live in NY to try, lol! Plus, most people have doormen anyways. I saw another sign like that on pinterest before that made me laugh, . Having a sign is a good idea if you have that problem, I hope it works!!

LOVE the printable. How are you going to display it and where?
