Spring is coming!! I am so excited, mostly for the April showers and the May flowers and such. I love Spring and all the flowers and nice weather and so on, but also, Spring parties because they are so bright, cheerful and fun to plan and decorate! When I saw the new flavor of M&M’s, M&M’s® Carrot Cake, I knew there was a party just waiting there but I didn’t want to do the standard garden party so I switched it up a bit with the April Showers fun! Also, based on the pictures, I think Avery’s friends loved it!!
It was so fun putting these together but it all started with the ultimate party favor. Since the theme was April showers, the first thing I thought of was what would we love to have on a rainy day- hot chocolate of course! I thought it would be a delish to make some hot chocolate spoons with the M&M’s® Carrot Cake! It was super easy and a great addition to the party favor!
It all starts with your favorite kind of chocolate melting in a double boiler, I used gel color to color white chocolate for mine so it matched the bright colors of the party.
Then I pick some plastic spoons in fun colors and start scooping!
The last step is to stud it with the M&M’s® Carrot Cake- the colors are as gorgeous as the flavor!
Then you pop them in the fridge until they are hard and wrap them up! The best part is you can mix up the chocolate or your favorite flavor of M&M’s® and the possibilities are endless!
I added them to the coolest favors ever packed with all kinds of great things for a rainy day and it turned out awesome! I started with a bag and a disposable insulated cup that the hot chocolate can be made it at home- these got filled with paper shreds and the holders and lids that come with them. Then I added wooden frames, plastic springs and bubble wands because when you are stuck inside on a rainy day- you need entertainment!
I finished it off with the cute little spoons and tied them up and they were done!
Now, the whole party was influenced by the favor and I had a blast with the decor. There was a pinwheel backdrop on the buffet table, fun umbrellas, clouds and raindrops hanging from the ceiling over the main table and rain boot vases holding paper flowers as the centerpiece. The umbrellas were made from picnic food covers I hung and cut little handles for and glued to the center. The clouds are tissue paper poms and the rain drops are card stock glued to baker’s twine. I love what it added to the table! I also love the faux grass that is on the main buffet and as the runners on the activity and food table, they work great with the fun Spring feel and the rain boot centerpieces. This may be my new favorite party theme!
Avery picked out the food which makes sense because if she likes it there is a good chance that all her friends would too! We went with pb&j sandwiches, popcorn in fun fluted cupcake liners I found in the cake decorating section of Walmart and sliced watermelon. I also had yogurt cups that the kids could add their favorite flavors of M&M’s® to as a special treat!
The kids were THRILLED with this treat in their yogurt- they were almost hesitant, like “really?! M&M’s® IN our yogurt?” it was an awesome surprise! Plus I loved the way all of the colors of the food worked so well with the whole table and theme.
Once food is taken care of you of course have to have some activities! I went with a variety of fun things I found in the Easter aisles at Walmart and the kids had a blast. I set up the table with wrapping paper instead of plastic table cloth (a fun change) and the same faux grass liner. I put the silver cookie sheets, which are super affordable and can be picked up when you are grabbing everything else, at each space to give the children a defined work space (as a preschool teacher you learn things). Then I put out chalk for the black chalkboard eggs, crayons for the white plain paper eggs and markers for the fun little fabric bags. Each kid got to decorate two of each types of eggs and their bags, it is a great low mess activity perfect for a party or a rainy spring day!
As you can tell from the photos the kids had a blast and I was so grateful to plan this party for all of them!
And to think that it all started with M&M’s® Carrot Cake, which I easily found in the Easter aisles at my Walmart which is where I was able to grab everything for this party- even an extra folding table!
