Favorite Projects of 2011!!

2011 was a great year, of course it had it's downs but it had some amazing times too!

I thought it would be fun if my last post of 2011 was a wrap up of my favorite crafts from the year!!

So let's get to it!

Of course, Chopstick Decor, maybe partly because it is cute and partly because the hubs didn't think I could make something cute out of Chopsticks!

I had a ton of fun making Pillow Case Dresses and Shirts and hopefully next year I can learn more sewing skills!!

These Neopolitan Cupcakes were soooo yummy!!

I am not sure if I like the craft as much as this picture but the Baby Bangles were so much fun to make!!

This one is really recent but I am already a HUGE fan of the Molding Book Shelf!

I think these Eric Carle Party Hats were one of my favorite aspects of Avery's first birthday party, besides the birthday girl of course!

This Rosette Necklace is a favorite because of how much use I got out of it after I made it!

This Goodwill Clothing Rack Upcycle was another project that got a ton of use!

I was totally into the Scrabble projects this year  and this Scrabble Family Frame was a sweet addition to the family room!

And, maybe the simplest but funnest part of the year, the Framed Thermostat!

Can't wait to see what 2012 has for me!!

Kitchen Sink Rice Crispie Treats {Guest Post for Mine for the Making}

Here is the guest post that I did last week on Kara's blog, Mine for the Making- I love guest posting on her blog!

Let me tell you, if Kara and I could get our daughters together and the four of us have a craft day it would be a MESS of glittler, glue, paint and Mod Podge.

But it would be SO fun!!

Anyways, I am here to share a sweet treat with you all, and since I am about being honest, I am going to tell you that three things FAILED before I got to this.

I only want to share the best on my girl Kara's blog. But that just shows that you should be persistant and really I just needed to stop making it so difficult and over thinking it.

Here is what I came up with:

I am not sure what to call it, I asked the fam and they just said "yummy" or "festival of chocolate" , it is kind of a Kitchen Sink Rice Crispie Treat. You take all the stuff you have left over from the holiday baking and top it on your rice crispie treat and then cover it with chocolate.

You can't get mad at that.

So here is the play by play:

Make the Rice Crispie Treat and put it in a lasagna pan or other deep dish. Make sure to line it with parchment paper or something to make your life easier when you are removing it.

Press in your larger pieces of chocolate, I had Reeses bells (my FAVORITE) so I pressed those in upside down so they were level (is my OCD showing?).

Then you add the small stuff, which in my case were marshmallows (another favorite). This could be any type of chocolate chip or broken candy cane or anything else you need to use up.

Then I melted some white candy melts in the microwave.

And drizzled it over the top.

Then I popped it in the fridge to harden and when it came out, I cut it up into small and large squares.

This is the perfect use of for the last bits of all those baking ingredients from the holidays!!

A thing of beauty...

So this isn't a new idea, it has been swirling around the internet for a while now but I just found myself able to jump on the bandwagon!!

Wanna know what I am talking about?!?!
Well, this:

Isn't is beautiful?! Well, if you find organization beautiful- which I do.

Basically the molding came from Home Depot and was $.62 a foot and I got 20 feet. I also picked up some small screws and "L" brackets.

I easily could have done this project on my own, but my dad had gone to Home Depot with us and such things are a million times easier for him to do and generally come out better so I was happy to let him run with it :)

Interesting tip: in order to find the studs to put the brackets into, he has a magnet that he runs along the wall and it catches on the nails in the stud and let you know where they are, pretty clever!

After they are all up then the fun part- putting the books back! I think I like Scott's new book wall more than he does!!

Last Minute Gift Idea {Guest Post for Creating My Way to Success}

I shared this last minute gift idea last week at Creating My Way to Success and really it could work great for Mother's day or a birthday as well so I thought that I would share it with you all!

I have made tons of these pedestal platters for parties and craft fairs. I have used plain plates, fancy plates, glittered plates and mod podged plates- but what about a plate painted by my toddler?

Cute right? This one is for my mom and it would be perfect to use for jewelery on a night stand, hold fruit in a kitchen or even cupcakes on the table. Really it can be used for anything- you can adjust the size of plate or even a bowl, you just need something that is clear. I found mine at the dollar store.

Here is what you need:

Glass plate or bowl
Paint and brush (acrylic or glass paint)
Spray Paint
Cup or candle stick
Gorilla Glue

First you have you child paint the back of the plate. Couple things to take into consideration here, 1) you want to make sure that they don't paint on the top of the plate because if it is used for food, they should be able to wipe it down with a cloth. 2) If you are painting with a young child, make sure they don't eat the paint, just to be safe. This is a one on one activity not a let them paint while you are doing the dishes thing. 3) Also important if you have a young child painting, only pick colors that look nice when mixed together. I chose pink, yellow and white because together they make a nice coral color.

After the plate dried, I grabbed some white spray paint, I did this so that it would seal the back of the plate while at the same time filling in the spaces and giving the pedestal a more 'finished' look.

I also painted a small plastic cup to be my base- it is just what I had around, this is last minute after all ;).

After they are both dry, take your Gorilla glue (or whatever is your favorite) and glue the cup or candle stick to the base of your plate.

Wrap it up and you are done!!

I will be honest, I had all this stuff around the house so I didn't have to go anywhere or buy anything- truely a last minute gift. But even if you did, the dollar store is a great place to have to stop for materials for a gift!!
