Wooden Pumpkins

I got a pile of scrap wood from my mom's house and when I came home I got that look from Wade... the "um, why?"

Me: "I am going to make them into pumpkins"

Wade: "Yes dear" he totally wasn't sold, not one bit.

But I remember last year when these were EVERYWHERE and I didn't get a chance to make them then, so I was so excited when I found scrap wood that would be perfect for them from my mom's house, and free!

Here is how they came out:

YAY! *happy dance*

Click "Read More" to see how I made them!

I used acrylic paint, sponge brushes, wine corks, hot glue and crepe paper... all stuff I had on hand so the whole project was free!

First I sanded all the edges of my wood, then I put two coats of orange paint on all sides of each piece.

Then I grabbed some extra wine corks and painted those brown, I also did two coats on these but in the picture the ones that are painted have just gotten the first coat.

After all the pieces of wood dried, I took some yellow mixed with orange and added some dimension lines to the front of all the pieces of wood.

Then I hot glued the corks on the top in the center.

When it came time to make the vines I searched everywhere for the green pipe cleaners I thought I had... couldn't find them so I had to get creative (that is what we bloggers do right?!) so I grabbed some green crepe paper and cut a couple feet long piece.

I twisted it up until it was skinny and vine-like,

then cut off the ends.

Once I had that, I twisted it around my finger to get a spiral and then just wrapped it around the cork of the pumpkin, it seems to stay find without any glue but of course that is an option.

Last, I displayed them on a shelf with a simple "family" frame I already had on hand (don't know if this family frame is done but it works for now).

I am so excited with the way they turned out, and once they were done, even the hubbs agreed that they do indeed look like pumpkins LOL.

Check me out at these great parties this week!

Very cute! That happens to me a lot... not getting to make a project until way after everyone else. But the good ones just stick with you, don't they?
