When I saw this on pinterest, I HAD to make one (or two) for my classroom.
Now I have gone crazy and decided all the teachers need some.
Isn't it cute!
Here is the one that inspired it on pinterest:
I am going to do one for colored pencils too, but I need to get the next smaller bit for the drill for that one.
Click "Read More" for the super simple tutorial!!!
Materials:
Wood stump (or any piece of wood)
Sander
Drill and bit
I was lucky and found these already cut at the preschool, it made this whole project loads easier. You could pretty much use any piece of wood.
Since the bark was pretty loose, I just took it off all the way around, I didn't throw it away though, that is a great art material!!
Then I just drilled a bunch of holes all over. I drew the spiral as a guide but you don't really need it.
Make sure you use a bit that looks like this one to make your life much easier, I tried a few others before the hubs suggested this one and it makes a HUGE difference! For the crayons I used a 7/16 bit and I think that for colored pencils a 3/8 will work.
After I had drilled all the holes, I sanded down the whole thing.
And then add your crayons!!
I can't get over how cute these things are!!!

I knew itd only be a matter of time before you made one of these...totally looks like a "delicateConstruction" / "Michelle's classroom" project. Love it! Great tute!

Oh, I love this! When I was a kid, my Grandpa made me a wooden elephant and then drilled holes in the back for crayons. And he woodburned my name on it. I still have it, too. This reminds me of it. Maybe I could make something simple like this for my boys. (Oh, and my Grandpa had 17 grandchildren... though probably only about 9 that he made these for!) Thanks so much for this tutorial!
