I was talking to a group of friends about the dinner table and while many of us gather the family around for a meal at the table, many don't. A lot of them said that when their children have friends over, they are rather shocked and excited about the idea which I found to be interesting. It seems like, while many families do it almost religiously 90% of the time, just as many don't.
When it was just me and Wade, I will be honest, we hardly ever at the table. But after Scott moved in and Avery was born, it just seemed natural, and easiest, to serve and eat dinner around the dinning room table.
That is where the idea for this craft came from, I wanted to make something that would promote dinner time conversations as Avery got older and started gaining more vocabulary and as a way for Scott to work on sentence structure and expressing himself. These little frames will act as a facilitator for conversations about the day, can be changed each day and for each person, and couldn't be easier to make!
Aren't they cute?

Materials:
Small Dollar Store Frames
Scrap Fabric (Mine came from my placemats)
Small pieces of card stock
Mod Podge and brush ( I like sponge brushes)
Scissors and/or paper cutter
First I took the frames apart, if you want to do anything to the frame itself, start with that, but I was happy with the plain black.
Then I put a layer of Mod Podge.
Then I took my cut pieces of card stock at 1 1/4" and 2 1/4",
And laid them in the center of the opening on the Mod Podge in each frame.
Next, I added another layer of Mod Podge on top of the paper and put rectangles of my scrap fabric on top.
Last, I put them all back together.
Then, I took a overhead marker (also called 'wet' erase marker, you could use a dry erase but the wet erase are generally a finer tip and all my dry erase markers were thick) and wrote some questions.
You can put them on the plate, next to the plate, in front of...you get the point.
The questions can be created to fit each member of the family, or you can just pick one question for the day and everyone can answer it.
How do you feel about the family dinner table?

Great idea with the frames :) We LOVE family dinner and make it a point to eat together at the dining room table. Both my husband and I grew up in families who did this as well, so it seems natural. It's a time that I cherish...we have such busy lives right now...it's nice to come together and enjoy one another's company over good food :)
