I have told you before about being a 'personal crafter' (as opposed to personal shopper) to my friends and family.
I am HAPPY to make things.
I am HAPPIER to make things for other people.
I am HAPPIEST making things for other people and then blogging about it ;).
So, when my friend Cheryl called me up and asked me to make her some pillow covers I said "when can you meet me at Joanns?" She picked out the fabric and I made her a set of pillow covers based on the one she gave me and I am so excited with the way they came out! She sent me some pictures and they look awesome on her couch!
You Need:
Fabric (to make the 3 almost 24" square pillows I used just over two yards)
Sewing machine and all that jazz
22" zippers
First I traced out my squares based on the original pillow cover folded inside out. I added a bit extra just to be safe.
Then I cut them out (this is the back of the fabric, I traced on it with the right side facing together in two layers).
Then I laid out my zipper.
I pressed the top edge that was going to go on the zipper but since this was upholstery fabric it didn't stay, but it did give me a good enough crease to guide me in the pinning of the fabric onto the zipper.
Then I turned the fabric over and pinned the edge on the zipper. It over laps a little bit so that the whole zipper doesn't hang out when it is all done.
Then I just ran a strait stitch down the side and then turned it around and did the same thing to the other side.
After I had sewed both sides, I folded the right sides together, pinned the edges and then sewed the pillow case shut. I did one straight stitch all the way around and then went back over it with a zig zag stitch to make sure it was secure.
Then I clipped the corners so they would fold out better.
Then I turned them inside out and they were done! I am so excited! This is the first time I had ever made them before!
And pictures from Cheryl of the finished, fluffed and stuffed, pillows.

These pillows are so cute! I've never made pillows with zippers before, but I might have to give it a try. And your personal crafter phrase, as I seem to be one for my friends and family as well.
Personal Crafter! I like that. I'll have to start using that. I can definitely relate. The pillows look great!
Those are really cute! Sounds like my kind of outing with a friend--Joanns! I need to make some pillows for my bedroom, thanks for the inspiration!
