It is no surprise that I am the self proclaimed "crazy art teacher" at the preschool where I teacher. I can make an art project out of anything...even the sensory tub!
I was rummaging through the art cupboards and stumbled upon these color applicator bottles and left over colored sand. After checking with the director that they were safe for my 18 month class (she said they were brand new- score!) and another teacher that they had put colored sand on this years supply order I grabbed the bottles and all the left over colors and ran to the classroom!
I mixed like colors because there weren't much of any one color (this is a great use up for that, or you could just color salt to make your own colored 'sand') and then I cut the tip off a little bit to make a slightly bigger hole and put the whole thing together and in the shelf next to the sensory tub. (Side note, that sensory tub can be made for under $20 with pvc pipe and a cement mixing tub.)
Avery tried it out for me and she was intrigued by the colorful sand falling out of the bottle onto the plain sand. Very exciting. I was also thinking of writing a message in the sand at orientation.
*I would specify that you should watch your kids so they don't drink said sand like my child tried, but let's be honest, you should be watching your toddler all the time anyways so technically all toys need adult supervision since the child does- right? Still a great project and obviously it is all non-toxic- also I got a 50 lb bag of clean play sand from Home Depot for $5, in the tub is maybe a 1/4 of the bag.
What fun projects have you done lately?
