I can't tell you how excited I was to be the first guest blogger for the Sew Chic Upcycling Week!! I have been thinking about this for a while and wanted to think of something awesome to share and I love the headband I came up with!!
This would be great for an adult too, but I love making stuff for my little princess, and she is an adorable model .. just sayin' ;).
Lets get started!!
You will need to gather:
An old t-shirt
Button
Elastic
Scissors
Hot glue gun
First, you are going to lay out your shirt and cut thin strips to make your braid.
Tie them in a knot at one end.
To make it easier to braid, I pinned it into my pin cushion.
After you finish the braid, knot the end, and then make a second one.
Now, comes the kind of tricky part. Cut a strip of t-shirt fabric to go around the braids and lay it flat. Then lay the braids in the middle so the knots just stick out the bottom and glue them down to the piece of t-shirt. Then glue the end of the elastic on top of the braids.
Add more hot glue on top and fold over each piece. Then, cut the knots off carefully, making sure you don't cut your elastic.
Do that to the second end also and you have your headband. You can leave it like this or go on and add the flower.
For the flower you are going to cut 8 circles in two different sizes; 4 of each size.
Also cut a \square of felt smaller than your circles and make a mark in the center.
Then, you are going to fold and glue each circle twice.
Next, place it on the felt so the point meets your center mark, starting with the four bigger circles.
Keep placing them on until you have the four bigger circles covering the bottom.
Then you are going to put the smaller ones on top, shifting them slightly so they overlap the seams of the bottom layer.
Once you add a button center, you are done with your flower!
To attach it to the headband, put hot glue down the middle of the backing of the flower and lay both braids over top.
Put more glue on the braids and add another piece of felt on top.
After you trim it up you are finally finished!!
Cute right?!!
