Last week was a fun week in baby class. We all made homemade ice cream and there was a reptile presentation that the children, especially Avery, got a kick out of.
First we worked on the ice cream. It was a simple recipe of 1 cup milk, 1 tbsp sugar and a splash of vanilla in a small sandwich size resealable bag. I double bagged mine to be safe.
Then I filled up a gallon bag half way with ice and add a half a cup of rock salt (sometimes called ice cream salt).
You put the little bag in the big bag of ice and shake, shake, shake for about 10 min.
Or you do what ended up happening with us and shake until your hands are frozen, and your child has lost interest because they are a toddler, and throw it in the freezer and go check out some reptiles.
That works too.
The first one she saw was the millipede, she thought that was cool but just looked at it.
Then the yellow snake came out, I am almost sure that is it's technical name...ok, maybe not. She pet this one but was still kind of in "what the heck are you showing me" mode.
Then came the hissing cockroaches, apparently her favorite...fabulous. Here is how that went.
First the presenter was just holding it in his hand so she could pet it, not enough for my daughter, she wanted to hold it.
"Look mom and dad, see!"
Then it had fallen so the guy picked it up and showed her again.
Yup, you guessed it, she wanted to hold it again.
Examine the top...
and turn it over and examine the belly...
"Ok, I'm done" and she gave it back that easily. I am just beyond grateful she didn't try to eat it like she does most other things.
After that there were a few more creatures, and then we all washed our hands and went back to the classroom. By this time our ice cream resembled ice cream and not a milkshake, and it was good!!
How was your weekend?
