Guest Blogger Sunday {Beauty from Ashes}

Hello all!! Welcome to another Guest Blogger Sunday! Today I am so glad to have Stephanie from Beauty from Ashes!! She has an adorable blog and I am so glad that she came by today to share a tutorial.

~.~.~.~.~

Peace, delicate CONSTRUCTION readers.
My name is Stephanie, from Beauty from Ashes,
and I am thrilled to be guest blogging here today.
My blog is less than a year old and I have only guest blogged one other time,
so I am just thrilled.

Beauty from Ashes is my blog, an outlet for my creative spirit.
While I dabble in a bit of everything the blog was created around the idea
of taking something used, tossed aside, or leftover and turning it into something beautiful.

Beauty from Ashes.

Three quick things about me...

1. My husband is my best friend, and he's cute too.
2. My sewing machine is from the thrift shop.
3. My dog, Pocket, is my side-kick. She's a bad Jack Russell Terrier - and I love her.

Thanks for having me Michelle!

Today, I am going to share with you a tutorial on how to
make a cloth headband from used clothing.
The pattern I am using is for an adult size but can easily be manipulated
to fit an ankle biter as well.

Last week I hosted a swap party, where I picked up this satchel bag.

I chose it for the fabric, and couldn't wait to rip it apart!!!
I love the neutral colours and the gold threading through it.

So, first you need a pattern.
This is the pattern I use.

All you need to do it get a piece of cardboard and replicate this stencil and you are good-to-go.

1. Cut apart whatever it is that you are using for fabric,
then press it so the material is nice and flat.

2. Cut 2 pieces from the pattern ON THE FOLD.
You have to cut on the fold since the pattern is for 1/2 the headband.
When you have done this you will have 2 identical pieces of fabric, as below.

3. Pin RIGHT SIDES of fabric together, lining up all edges.

4. Sew 1/4" along the top and bottom of the headband leaving the two ends open.
This is left open so you can turn the fabric and attach the elastic.

5. Remove pins, and trim, if necessary.

6. Turn RIGHT SIDE out and press flat with iron.

7. Turn both ends inside, just less than a 1/2" of each side, and press flat.

8. Cut a piece of elastic band 6" long.

9. Insert just less than 1" of the band into either end of the headband, and pin in place.

10. Now top stitch around the entire edge of the headband, 1/4" from the edge,
securing the elastics as you go.

11. Remove pins & press.

YOUR DONE!

Now you have a cute little headband to sport.
Especially handy for those days when you run late on styling time or just plain old
don't wash your hair.
(Come on, we all do it)

I made these three in no time.
One from a thrifted pillowcase, the other from an old shirt,
and then the brown one from the swapped satchel.

Packaged up with a homemade flower hair tie - they make a cute gift.

Thanks again for having me.
I'd love to see you over at Beauty from Ashes.

Peace.
