This is my guest post from last week on Vanilla Bean! Have you checked out Ellie's blog yet? You haven't? GO now then!!
Today, I have a project that I have been working on, off and on for a few weeks now.
Mamas, you know how that goes. I sit down to work on it and then the baby wakes up or the laundry is done or something is burning done in the oven. But luckily, it is perfect for that.
I am going to share my tutorial for Family Embroidered Hand Prints!
Cute, right?!
And there are such a fun accent to the hallway!
Here is how I made them...
You need:
Embroidery hoop to fit all the hands in your family.
Fabric
Embroidery floss and needle
Paper
Scissors
Hot glue gun
Pins
First trace all the hands of the members of your family. Then, put your fabric in the embroidery hoop. If you have one of those invisible/ washable pencils or markers you can use that to trace the hand prints but I found that they worked, a little too well. I kept finding myself having to retrace them on since I was coming back to it over time. So, I improvised and pinned my hand templates on the fabric and sewed around it, this way it was easy to pick up where I left off.
Then, you are just going to sew a simple stitch around each template.
Another tip, if you have babies or toddlers is, instead of getting a tracing of their hand (which is NOT easy if you have ever tried it) I take a hand print with paint and after it dries, cut it out. I find this to be much less of a challenge for mama and way less traumatic for the child- always a plus :).
After they are all traced, pull the back of the fabric through the hoop tightly and trim it down. Doesn't have to be perfect.
Then, run hot glue around the back edge.
And fold down the edge of the fabric.
Lastly, you just need to hang it on the wall!
And there you have it! A great accent and memory for your hallway!!

I absolutely love this. I'm thinking of dong it as a present for the grandparents. Thanks for the idea.
This is so wonderful and the timing is perfect. This week I'm teaching my girls to embroider.
I am pinning this to use as a Christmas idea for the grandparents who have everything. Thanks:)
