Sewn Banner for Avery's Room

We are all aware that in the past I have been know to be lazy take short cuts when it comes to sewing. I wasn't a pin-er or a presser...until now. I have really seen why they are important and I am pretty sure I am a believer... gasp. lol

I redid Avery's room last week, nothing too drastic but I did paint over the tree I had on her wall (side note Wade just looked at me and shook his head when he saw this because painting for me- a wall or a room- kinda just happens at the spur of the moment, so it always seems to come out of left field for him) and moved some things around and out. The point was to make it a little more child proof and move more of her toys in there. I really see us being out of the crib this fall (um, my child climbs like a monkey) so I want to work on making her room a safe as can be place for her.

Also, I have been wanting to make a pink pennant for her room for-ev-er. So I did, finally.

And let me tell you, getting a picture of it over the window was not as easy as I thought it would be.

What do you think?

Materials:
  • Fabric for triangles
  • Triangle template
  • Bias tape
  • Pen/marker
  • Scissors
  • Pins
  • Sewing machine
  • Iron

First, I cut my triangles, two for each one, with my homemade template. I pinned them together before I cut to make sure they didn't shift.

Then, I sewed the two sides, but not the top.

Next, I turned them right side out and a crochet hook was very helpful in getting the point out. Then I pressed them with the iron.

Next, I made a piece of bias tape, I had I think a piece of binding that was already pressed in half so I just pressed the ends into the center to finish the edges. But it isn't to hard to make your own bias tape, just some ironing.

After that, I laid the triangles in between the two pieces of bias tape and pinned them together.

Last, all I had to do was run it through the sewing machine! ( I left the edges unfinished because I wasn't going to see them and the baby woke up from her nap).

Then you just need to hang it up! Secret? I used packing tape...shhhhhhhhh.

I think it came out great, way better than the pictures show, it was either washed out or too bright, I thought the light would have made it easier to photograph but what do I know lol.
