Hello Good Readers of delicateConstruction! I'm your guest blogger for the day and I'm SO excited because this is the very first time EVER that I've done a guest post! You can all say, "I knew her when!"
I'm a follower of delicateConstruction and Michelle does an awesome job! But you all know that!!! So Thanks, Michelle, for having me come over and visit!
Awkward intro over...let's get moving on to what I'd like to share with you today!
Hot Pad Hand Towels
My Crafty Mother-in-Law showed me how to make these YEARS ago! They're cute, inexpensive, handy (ha ha...handy!), and they are easy peasy to whip out! Here we go...
You're going to need a dish towel (I made two...you can make one, two, or whatever!)
A hot pad: the square-ish kind
A sewing machine
A button and thread & needle
I found these at Gordman's. I'm sure the Dollar Tree would work AWESOME for this project!
Next step: I ironed the towels to get the creases out. Then I folded each towel in half and ironed the fold. You'll also want to fold your hot pad in half with the print side in. I also ironed this fold.
Fire up your sewing machine! I am a Super Rookie when it comes to sewing, and if I can crank one of these out...YOU can crank one of these out! We're going to do some gathering...so set your machine to a long stitch. Flatten your towel and stitch along the fold you ironed.
Grab one of the strings and gently tug. Some of the strings tug easier than others...at least for me!
Gather across the entire towel. Grab your hot pad and use that to gage how tight to gather. You will want the edges of your towel to match the edges of your hot pad.
Stick with me! We're almost done!!!
Open up your towel and your hot pad. Put the "nice" sides together and match up your gathered stitch with the ironed fold of your hot pad. Pin them together so they stay in place.
Set your sewing machine back to a tighter stitch. Then sew the two pieces together along the gather stitch. Make sure to back stitch the sides for extra support.
Looks kind of like Pac Man!
Here are my two all stitched up!
Now grab your button. We'll be sewing it on the "front" of the hot pad. NOT the side with the loop! Center the button and stitch it almost at the tippy top of the hot pad.
The hot pad loop and the button make the hanger for the towel! Slip the loop up through a drawer or cabinet handle and hook it over the button.
VOILA!
Pot Holder = $1.99
Towel = $2.99
Button = FREE (I already had them)
Thread = FREE (had that, too)
Maybe 40 minutes of my time = FREE
Handy Dandy Towel hanging right where me and my kiddos need one = PRICELESS!
Isn't that cute!?!?!
And I think it is great that you can make it match any decor!
You have to check out some of her other great ideas:
I will be stealing borrowing more than a couple of these ideas.
