3$ Goodwill Find Turned Accessory Rack!

Two things happened that I was pretty excited about:

I found a Goodwill that was 10 min from my house, brand spankin' new and organized by color even- score!

AND

I also found 3$ dollars in the bottom of my purse.

I think it was meant to be.

So earlier this week I went to check it out and this is what I found:

A children's coat rack.

And this is what it became:

My new accessory organizer!!

Click "Read More" to see how I made it!!

What you need:
  • Coat rack or something similar
  • Mod Podge and brush
  • Fabric
  • Ribbon
  • Felt
  • Hot glue gun

First I unscrewed the pegs so it was easier to apply the fabric.

Then I put a BUNCH of Mod Podge on the front of the coat rack with my sponge brush.

I smoothed the fabric over the top and then added another heavy layer of Mod Podge.

You could use the Mod Podge for the sides but I, personally, just found it easier to hot glue this part. I lifted it up as I went, added some hot glue and then smoothed the edge down.

After I had done the whole edge, I trimmed down the back and glued it along the back as well.

Then you let it dry for a bit.

Next, I used some sharp thread scissors (because they have a pointy tip) to remake the holes.

I wanted to repaint the pegs but didn't have anywhere to put them to dry, so I partially screwed them back into the board but left space to paint it without getting any paint on the fabric.

I just added another coat of white because I am going with the black and white theme to match our bedroom. I also added a piece of ribbon around the edge with the hot glue gun.

At this point I put it down for the night and let it dry. But when I woke up in the morning I still thought it needed something, so I made a couple of rosettes and added them to the top.

And DONE!! Hubby hung it up for me between our closets and above the full length mirror. Perfect spot!

And very useful!!!
