Planning and Message Boards

I have been envisioning this area of the home for a while and today I finally put it together and I am so pleased with the outcome!

Here is what you need:
  • 11 x 14 canvases (2 I found them at big lots for cheap)
  • Fabric 2 large pieces to cover canvases and some coordinating scraps
  • 12 x 12 cork tile
  • scrapbook letters
  • Metal welcome sign (or other piece of metal, this was just what I found from at the dollar store)
  • Round magnets
  • Scrapbook paper that coordinates with fabric
  • Hot glue
  • Staple gun
  • Paper cutter
  • Push pin hooks (or other small hooks)
  • Mod Podge

Ok it seems like a lot but it will be ok, first you cover your canvases with the fabric and the staple gun.

Take your cork tile and score it with a paper cutter into 6 pieces that are 4x6 inches.

Hot glue 3 of the cork pieces on each canvas.

Then came the push pin hooks which are something my dad had given me that he found in the bottom of his tool box. I was going to nail them into the bottom but I had gotten cheapy canvases so the frame ended up breaking off the point. I was concerned but then I noticed the flat edge- now it was perfect to be hot glued on, problem solved. I put them under each of the tiles.

Next came the letters- I placed them and then used hot glue to ensure they stayed because they didn't stick too well on the fabric on their own.

These are done and I hung them, next I made quick magnet message boards on the sides with a magnet sign I found at the dollar tree. I first cut it in half and cut the rounded edges off.

Then I cut paper to fit and Mod Podged it onto the metal. I made some fabric flowers and attached them to magnets and hung them on either side of the calendar.

At this point I called it done, I feel like this has become an awesome place to get organized for the week for meals, messages and chores. I was really excited when I found the turquoise fabric in the remnant bin at the craft store and thought it brought out that color in my nearby covered canvas bulletin boards. The flowers tied all the colors together and I feel like it is bright and fun without being to ridiculous.

So awesome Michelle! I have an area in our office that serves the same purpose, but I love how colorful yours is! Stop by later today to see the cork board I made for my Craft Nook :) Seems to me we have similar taste in our crafting/decorating :)

Have a great Sunday!

This is so cute and colorful...you've got me thinking about how well those colors match my house. I don't think the husband is going to be thrilled with yet another project, but it's so adorable!

Love it.

So cute!! I am so jealous that your magnets stuck; I recently tried making a mini clipboard for my toddler to hang up and move magnets when he completed simple tasks. I spray painted the clipboards with magnetic paint, checked to make sure the magnets stuck, picked out paper, made sure magnets stuck thru paper, glued scrapbook paper over the ugly paint, magnets no longer stuck. Guess it's the glue? Maybe should've Mod Podged. Not sure why I didn't. Any clue? (umm, on why glue worked as a barrier, not on why I didn't use Mod Podge LOL)

I love this! It looks so good and is all inclusive for anything you would need to remember. :) My sister just made her message board center, and I think she might be mad that she didn't find this first. ;)
